A lot of us can’t afford to be inconvenienced and leave the car at home and carpool, Not a lot of times are there public transportation options available to work. It also may not be sensible for use to walk or ride a bike to work if we live so far away. Nor do we have the resources to buy an electric or hybrid car, or even a diesel car.

So here are some everyday ways to reduce carbon footprint. These things won’t need a commitment, sacrifice, or have to spend a lot of time doing.

  • Don’t leave the car idling for so long because it wastes gas when you do.
  • Unload unnecessary weight in your car so that you can travel lighter. Don’t take out essential things like spare tires and jacks, but don’t use your trunk as a storage room to store boxes and unused items. Leave those things in the garage, toss them, or donate them.
  • If you have a roof rack and you’re not using it, take it off. It will make your MPG increase and make your car more efficient.
  • Make sure your car is well maintained and passes the smog check. Get your oil changed regularly.
  • Your tires need to be inflated to the proper PSI (pressure per square inch), so that it will run at its peak performance. It’ll help save you gas and also it will make the tires last longer.
  • Link trips together. Instead of going to the grocery store, then home, then pick up the kids, then home, then the gym, link all your trips together so that you don’t start and stop the car. Also it saves time as well. These are some essential ways to reduce carbon footprint.

  • Lower your thermostat to 60 degrees. This helps to save gas.
  • Turn off your lights when you’re not using them
  • Clean and/or replace air filters for your heater and AC.
  • Set your fridge temperature to 38 degrees Fahrenheit and 2 degrees for your freezer.
  • Putting a brick in your toilet tank can reduce how much water you use when you flush
  • Install an indoor ceiling fan instead of using AC
  • Wash your clothes with cold water. Now some laundry detergent companies are marketing detergent that works just as good in cold water. Not having to heat your water up will save you some money.
