Energy Efficient Lightbulbs
The beauty of Energy Efficient Lightbulbs is that it’s something that you can do right away to start saving on your electricity bill. Because the state and government subsidize these compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CLFs), they are really cheap and you can get a pack of them for under $5. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and U.S. Department of Energy pay for a portion of these builbs.
Energy efficient lightbulbs that have the Energy Star label will pay for itself in 6 months. If you change all your lightbulbs to these CFLs, you’ll save $30 in electric bills for the life of each light bulb. Imagine if every American changed just one of these bulbs. It would actually save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for a full year. Now imagine if you changed 3 of your ordinary energy wasting lightbulbs to these energy efficient lightbulbs. You’ll not only save 3 times the money, but you’ll be saving energy too.
If you could take 2 million cars off the road each year or plant almost 3 million acres of trees to help pollution, would you do it? Well, by changing your incandescent bulbs to these CFL energy efficient lightbulbs, that is essentially doing the same thing.
With the news in the media lately about mercury poisonings and coal-powered power plants causing pollution, by switching your light bulbs to CFLs, it would reduce 10.3 mg of mercury used to make the ordinary incandescent light bulbs.
You may have seen the commercials on the TV about changing your light bulbs to CFLs to save energy and those figures are correct. Switching from incandescent to fluorescent alone is an energy saver as well as electricity bill reducer – not to mention that these energy efficient lightbulbs lasts 10 times longer. Think about it, you wouldn’t have to change light bulbs as often. Changing a light bulb 10 times is a pain in the butt. Changing it once is nothing.
